iWitness("we", "our", or "the extension") is committed to protecting your privacy. This policy explains how information is handled when you use the iWitness browser extension and this website.

Overview

iWitness is a digital trust intelligence product. We do not sell your personal information. Most extension data stays on your device. AI analysis may send relevant page content to our secure API for processing.

Information Stored Locally

The extension stores the following on your device using Chrome local storage:

  • Extension settings (language, protection options, plan preferences)
  • Alert history and trust check usage
  • Cached privacy policy analyses for sites you visit
  • Blocked account lists and domain visit records

This data remains on your device unless you clear it from Settings or uninstall the extension.

Information Sent for AI Analysis

When you use AI-powered features, relevant visible page text and metadata (such as URL and page title) may be sent to our API endpoint at https://myiwitness.online for analysis. This content is processed to generate trust scores, privacy summaries, and safety alerts. We do not use this data for advertising.

Third-Party AI Services

Our API may forward analysis requests to third-party AI providers (such as OpenRouter and underlying model providers) solely to deliver safety analysis. We do not permit these providers to use your data for their own model training where opt-out options apply.

What We Do Not Do

  • We do not sell your browsing data
  • We do not run advertising trackers in the extension
  • We do not collect data unrelated to safety features

Website

This website may use standard server logs (IP address, browser type, pages visited) for security and performance. If you contact us by email, we use your message only to respond to your request.

Permissions

The extension requests browser permissions solely to provide safety features:

  • Storage: save settings and alert history locally
  • Tabs: identify the current page and deliver analysis
  • Scripting: display safety indicators on webpages
  • Text-to-speech: read alerts aloud for accessibility
  • Host access: analyze visible content on sites you visit

Your Rights

  • View stored data through the extension interface
  • Clear cache and alerts from Settings
  • Uninstall the extension to remove all local data
  • Contact us to request information about data we process via our API

Children's Privacy

iWitness is designed to help users of all ages browse more safely. We do not knowingly collect personal information from children beyond what is necessary to provide the safety service.
